NEW CITY DEVELOPMENTS

Maribor is the cultural, tourist, business, and economic center of the region, which is constantly developing. In recent years, it has undergone numerous changes that have shaped its urban image and raised the quality of life for its residents. The city is focused on sustainable development, infrastructure improvement, and promoting cultural and educational activities. Furthermore, projects have been carried out in areas such as sewerage, the development of green spaces, and traffic management in the city center, contributing to the city’s greater orderliness and aesthetic appeal. We have increased the quality of the road infrastructure, improved cycling paths, and expanded pedestrian areas, which is crucial for the greater safety and comfort of all users.
However, ensuring that all those who create and live in the city feel good is one of our main priorities.

Recently, we have redeveloped numerous squares and streets, and invested significant funds in the renovation of public spaces. Creating an investor-friendly environment is our long-term commitment. Further renovations are planned for the next few years.

Main square

The narrower area of the Main Square and Koroška cesta was landscaped with the aim of improving the streets in the Old Town to make the area a high-quality and modern public space. The construction of appropriate infrastructure is aimed at changing travel habits,
sustainable mobility, the attractiveness of the city centre and improving air quality.

Splavarska Footbridge

The purpose of the new footbridge between Lent and Tabor is to reconnect parts of the city centre along the River Drava and to improve the public open space in urban areas.

Lent promenade

The promenade along the river Drava under the medieval walls of Maribor is uniformly paved and gradually descends to the river with a staircase for sitting by the river. The landscaping complements the landscaped and restored promenade and opens up views of historic buildings and the World’s Oldest Vine.

Vojašniški Square

The main purpose of the revitalisation and renovation of Vojašniški Square and the associated buildings is to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Maribor, to preserve the old building structures and restore their historical significance in a renovated form, to increase the spatial capacity for cultural activities and to enrich the western part of the Old Town with programmes. The Court Tower was also restored, as well as the museum of the oldest vine in the world.

City park promenade

The renovated promenade in the City Park included public infrastructure to improve the urban environment and revitalise the city. It improved the accessibility of the park for all social groups, and enabled sports and other activities to take place.

Cycling and pedestrian areas were created along the River Drava as part of the continued improvement of sustainable mobility for residents and visitors to Maribor. The cycling route along the River Drava passes through 4 countries (Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia) and is approximately 510 km long in total.
